Hope Runs
"Hope City" was a mining camp for Resurrection Creek, established in 1896. The Hope post office began operating in 1897. Portions of the town were destroyed in the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake. It is located south on the other side of the arm 88 miles from Anchorage. The road is smooth and perfect for a quick day trip with lunch at Tito's Discovery Cafe.
May 28, 2005: 1st Hope Run
Well, the weather didn't help any but the
AKMC would not be stopped because of a little rain. It was a quick trip to
Hope with a destination to Tito's Cafe. Members who showed up at Barnes &
Nobles included John and Kristi in KOOPA, Chief in CHIEF, Marilyn in KAZOOM (who
had new shoes), Jeff in his Bimmer, and Mike in JENNY. Thanks to Kristi
for taking this picture. There were some nice moments to include driving
in the rain with the wipers on full, passing RV's at 80 MPH, and dodging pot
holes at Hope. There was traffic going down with many people enjoying the
Memorial weekend. Tito's Cafe was nice with a reserved table just for the
AKMC. And the pie was mmmm good! It looks like the Hope run will be
added to the season schedule. Topics of discussion included how to get
maximum participation of Miatas to beat the 9 Miata record still standing.
June 10, 2007: A Hopeful Reminder There are times that
remind me, that THIS is all worth it. More than six months of winter and
then, one glorious day, just for us! June 7th was one of those AKMC days
to remember. Tony showed up at Barnes & Nobles with the news of road
construction towards Sheep Mountain Lodge. Marilyn and Meera showed up
with plan B. Which was a south run to Hope. The last run to Hope was
with John and Chief. It was
sprinkling and I didn't recall it like this. Even the bridges from
Girdwood were redone and totally smooth. If it wasn't for the bike race on
the road to Hope we could have been a tad bit spirited. We had lunch at Tito's
Discovery Cafe and met Eve. We hope you will join us in future events.
After lunch we stopped by Hope by the
water and had a beer. Thanks to Meera and Marilyn for the photos.
Thanks to Tony for sharing the day with us.
