No posts for months on end, no activity. Dude, I have the easiest mod job ever!!
What's going on people? Cars are running so awesome you don't need any maintenance or repair advice!? If so then that's great!! Long live the Mazda Roadster!!!! _________________ ZOOM! ZOOM! |

What does a Miata need?
Put in gas, change the oil, and drive
That's what I do _________________ Attitude=

okay maybe a stupid question. I just turned 54,000 miles (in North Pole i might ad). I know the timing belt should be done at 60,000 miles, but with the car being a 99 should i do it early? Also would it be worth it to change out the plugs/wires? _________________ 1999 Mazda Miata - Connie

Changing plugs and wires also has a mileage. I think it is 20K miles but check your factory manual or check it out online. Now, a real tune up would include those items. It is preventative maintenance and there is nothing wrong with giving CONNIE lots of TLC. She did well on the Midnight Sun Fun Run even with you running over stuff, like curbs.
As for the timing belt, that is a 60K on the maintenance schedule. If money is not an issue because timing belts are around $300,-$500 for a really good job including the other pulleys that the belt touches. Now, if you don't have the money or can wait Miata people have let it go beyond 100K miles. And if it breaks nothing will happen to your engine because it is a non reciprocating type motor. Before it breaks it will be squealing like most bad belts telling you to change it.
Hopefully Marc gives you his professional Mazda answer/advice. _________________ Peace! |

Alright looks like after I have the convertible top replaced I will have the timing belt and water pump from flying miata put in and new plugs and wires. I am really picky about my maintenance and have always taken care of Connie. I just don't believe in changing oil every 3000 miles - its a scam. I change it every 6000 miles or 6 months with Mobil One Synthetic and a OEM Mazda Filter every time. _________________ 1999 Mazda Miata - Connie
